The sun has not kissed the earth in a while,
the ground stays wet,
and the green grass sloshes beneath my feet,
I wear my gumboots everyday.
The trees are bare,
their empty limbs longing for the beauty of leaves,
wishing for springtime,
dreaming of blossom adornment.
The barn is lonely,
no new animals being birthed,
no sounds of a newborn cry,
no proud, but exhausted mothers to shelter.
But at night the Winter sky is alive,
it shines with a thousand tiny stars,
like a blanket of sparkling diamonds,
standing watch over me.
I know soon that Springtime days will come,
that the barn shall be full of new life,
that leaves and blossoms will fill my eyes,
but my sad heart will always long for that Winter sky.

Beautiful x
What beautiful writing!
I love all of the imagery. Great poem…although I prefer summer skies lol
This is beautiful, Mackenzie! It has been quite a while since I’ve experienced a winter night, but you took me there with your lovely and descriptive words. Thank you!!
This is so beautiful, Mackenzie. You always wow me with your words and the images and emotions they invoke. Winter skies are beautiful to me as well. The crisp, cold air. The shining brilliance of the stars. Ahhh, just beautiful. 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing, Mackenzie!
