Why is that our kids drive us crazy with endless questions of why this and why that? Some seem to be on a broken record (showing my age I do vaguely remember when records were still around, or at least before they became cool wall art), some questions are repeated at least once a day, but often quite a few more than that!
- What’s for dinner (we can get this as early as breakfast time)
- What’s for lunch,( usually followed by a disappointed moan when they hear sandwich again.)
- Why do we have to eat vegetables every night? (I mean you think they would just accept it by now, do they really need to complain every night? Really?)
- Why is there always something green on our dinner plate?(Peas, beans, broccoli, lettuce, capsicum).
- Why do I have to go to school when my tummy hurts, (because you say that nearly every morning, therefore if I listened you would never go to school and I may just be arrested).
- Why do I have to grow up? (Sorry I can’t stop that, as much as I might want to!)
- Why do I have to wear a coat? (um because it is freezing, or raining and I don’t want a sick child).
- Why do I have to clean it up? (well why should I have to?)
- Why do I have to come? (Because if I leave you home alone I will be arrested!)
- Why do I have to put sunscreen on? (So you don’t look like fried chicken.)
- Why do I have to have a bath? (So you don’t stink, or looked so unloved and neglected that I get arrested.)
- Why do I have to say sorry to my brother/sister? (Because if you don’t mummy might have a meltdown.)
- Why do I have to go to bed? (Because if you don’t mummy is guaranteed to have a MELTDOWN.)
- Why do you love me? (Because you are the sweetest, funniest, cutest, most loveable, adorable child in the whole wide world!!!!!!!!)
Yes the questions are endless, repetitive, exhausting, infuriating and sometimes super cute, and I wouldn’t trade being the mummy who gets to answer them for anything in this world.
What questions do you get everyday? What one’s would you add to my list. Comment below or Tweet me @macglanville.

I always get why do you have to brush my hair followed closely by is there knots in my hair and is it going to hurt? Oh the joys! #MummyandUs
Kristen
my daughter April gets the most knots in her hair, it is always ouch! ouch! lol
They are exhausting aren’t they!! My eldest is question after question and now my youngest has leant why!!!! Help me now #mummyandus xx
Looks like you’ll have lots of ‘whys’ in your near future. Good luck!
The why questions are the worst…sometimes I think they are on auto pilot & keep firing out questions without thinking about what they are saying. lol thanks so much for hosting #mummyandus x
yes so true, I think it is auto pilot!
At my boys age they are often ‘When..’ questions too. ‘When can we go on the computer/are we going out/will you play with us/is dinner’ etc etc. But I do love the why questions, most of the time. I attempt to answer but it is not always easy. thank goodness for google. Kirsten
yes google can be a big help!
The most common question from my 7 year old girl is “Mummy why can’t you be my school teacher?”
I find this hard to answer because I do wish I was her school teacher from prep all the way to year 12. But we all know that’s only possible if I home school which is something I seriously
considered since she was born.
Yes I seriously considered this, and even still do sometimes, but I know I have made the right choice as they are so happy. Home schooling can be a great choice for many families. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Such cute questions π Fun reading them.
glad you enjoyed it.
hehe we haven’t hit the “whys” yet so have all this to come. I love the shower one and the suncream one! Imagine if you just didn’t bother?? haha Thanks for hosting xx #mummyandus
I know imagine we didn’t bother lol, not good
We’re not quite there yet but I suspect it’s only a matter of time before she starts bombarding me with questions! Love your list of questions, they made me chuckle π Thanks for hosting #mummyandus
glad it made you chuckle x
Ah, fab post! Oliver at 2 and a half has just started to ask questions. I am constantly explaining things to him and feel under pressure to ensure I give him the right information. The hardest one this week was ‘why do the clouds rain?’ arggg!
Thanks so much for hosting,
Becky x
The questions never stop, even at 11 Aspen is still full of questions, I guess I should enjoy it as I’ll be more worried when she stops asking me!
I am forever questioned as to why she has to let me know where she is when she goes out, nobody else has to do that – apparently ha! X
Oh I remember doing that to my mum, I guess I have that one to look forward to with Aspen already being 11 it won’t be long.
I totally agree, and endless questions of why???? it might be annoying sometimes but I think it shows how inquisitive they are with things which is a good sign, I guess, lol. Great post! #MummyandUs
I totally agree, I ma glad they are inquisitive too
Sometimes there are some benefits to having a pre-verbal child. π None of the ‘Mummy, mummy, mummy, but why mummy why?’ ad infinitum. Ha ha. I wouldn’t swap my daughter for the world, either. #mummyandus
all the fun is yet to come, it is great really xx
The “why” stage is just beginning with my three year old! I have a feeling I’m in for a fun ride! Lol! Thanks so much for hosting #mummyandus xx
I love this post and it reminded me of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enKeTKon9NI
Lovely post. Bought back so many memories! Thank you for hosting and have a lovely week
Aaah! I’ve got all this to come!! At the moment it’s β ‘what’s that mummy?’ LOL!! I’ve started replying ‘What IS that?’ and 99.9% of the time, they can answer it themselves!! π Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday β hope to see you again next week! x

The why questions wear me out, Ez asks why to just about everything I say. I know it’s because he’s genuinely curious and he doesn’t realise just how annoying it can be, though I think if he did realise, he’d probably still carry on, cheeky 3 year old π
3 year olds are so CUTE
lol! I love “I get arrested.” That’s a really good answer. I will have to steal that one from you. I get that all the time the “why this? why that?” I also wouldn’t changed it for the world. π xx #TwinklyTuesday
you are welcome to steal, lol
Oh the forever questions! hehe sounds very very familiar! π

Why do kids ask so many questions?
