This weekend Spring truly greeted us and it was so lovely to say hello. The air was so warm and it was great to get out into the backyard.
We moved into this home in May this year and soon after we welcomed winter. So we haven’t started our back garden yet. Now that springtime is here hubby and I are deciding what we want to do with our back garden. We had such a gorgeous native garden in our last home, with lots of gum trees and a windy path, and two large decked areas, plus chickens roaming around. Our garden here is a lot flatter and a fair bit smaller too, and at the moment it is just grass. We have made a few decisions, we know we need to create an outside eating area, and we want fruit trees and some screening trees, and also a vegetable patch. We also really need to get a garden shed to keep gardening tools and the bikes etc. So we set out with our tape measure and enjoyed the sun whilst pondering what to do, and what to put where.
Sunday was Father’s day here. We headed to my parents home and had a lovely B.B.Q lunch followed by some fresh scones YUMMY! It was great to see my nephews too and one of my brothers, and my gorgeous sister. You can see some pics from Sunday on Instagram.
Here are a few pics of Adam with Aspen on Saturday playing whilst we were deciding on what to do with the garden.
Do have any great garden ideas? I’d love some inspiration!

After 4 years we have finally spent a little time on our garden – mainly just a big eating area but it has made such a difference and we have spent so much time outside now. Looking forward to see how you get on. #pointshoot
eating areas are great and so useful
I love the kids faces in that final shot it looks like they are having so much fun! #PointShoot
thanks they really were
They really were enjoying themselves, just so nice to get outdoors
Awesome weather.Eating area in the lawn sounds perfect. It doesn’t come with multi-storey buildings. Lucky you.
yes I guess we take it for granted in a way, but we are very lucky xx
Oh it is great to get back into the garden in spring, the children look as though they are having a ball. Good luck with it xx #PointShoot
thank you Lisa xx
Great fun. We don’t actually have a garden but if we did I would love a tree house or a tipi made from tree branches as a chill out den. Sarah #WhateverTheWeather
oh yes wouldn’t that be amazing!
I don’t really have any suggestions for you but you’ve just reminded me that we’re about to get into Autumn here! Eeek! Having an outside eating area is a great idea and something that I am missing myself! I’ll have to get on that! Thank you for linking up to #FamilyFun! Hope you can join us again next week x
oh I adore Autumn and all the colours
Looks like you’ve got a great blank canvas with that garden. I’m not very green fingered, so can’t off much advice, but I do love having lots of grass for the children to run around and play. Good luck. #Whatevertheweather
yes we didn’t have grass in our last home and the kids are enjoying it
Oh a blank canvas to work with, perhaps a veggie plot? A nice seating area for Al fresco dining? We have made a lot of eating space in the garden as we like to eat out there a lot – when the weather permits. Id love a vegetable plot too, but when the kids are older and I have time to maintain it! I’d love to see what you end up doing with it! Thanks so much for sharing at #familyfun, hope you can come back again next week xx
we had a great verge plot at our last home, and it was so great to grab fresh things when we needed them. We don’t have as much space here, but i will still put one in as it is lovely
we live outside when the weather is nice. Now that the twins are 2.5 it gets easier to play outside everyday. For awhile there it was a nightmare.

yes they need to get outdoors and have space, but weather can make that tough can’t it!
These are all great ideas! We have just come to the end of summer here and I have been thinking about the kind of garden I would like one day – I would love a wild area with long green grass and little pops of colour from a variety of wild flowers… This will probably remain a dream forever as I can’t see us getting a house with a garden of our own anytime soon! But it really does look beautiful and is great for wildlife! #SharingtheBlogLove
so true! I love wildlife attracting plants, I must do that!
It must be lovely to have a blank canvas to work with. I’m not very good when it comes to gardening ideas, I like things to be pretty, but without the effort. The lovely Katy (my co-host) is fab at gardening and has some lovely posts over on her blog, they might give you some inspiration. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove X
oh thank you forgetting me know! It is nice in many ways to have a blank canvas although I would love if we had some big trees.
It looks like a lovely space, I bet you’ll make it completely gorgeous! Your children look like they are enjoying it without any planting too, maybe you’ll need to leave some grass to kick a ball around? Thanks so much for linking up with #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x
so true, I think they love the space!
Oh, I love a blank canvas garden! I’ve just started over in a section of my garden due to losing a few plants to some kind of fungus, and I feel so inspired! If you can wait, I would suggest putting off making any big plans until you’ve been in your place a year – that way you can really understand everything that’s in your garden, and get a real sense of what gets the sun at different times of day throughout the year. I planted lots of spring bulbs and bedding plants in the meantime while I got to grips with our garden (plus I’d just had a baby, so there really wasn’t time then to do anything more fancy!) Completely agree with Jenny above – it looks like you’re kids are loving the space, so a good section of lawn looks key! Thanks so much for joining us again at #SharingtheBlogLove
that is very sensible advice! We have been through late Autumn and Winter and it really makes sense to wait, I am quite impatient though lol. One thing we have on our side is that our new home and garden face the exact way that our old home and garden did so we have good idea of what areas will get sun all year and what won’t. Yes I agree lawn seems to be key!
Oh you could do so much with that space. Baby has a playhouse and her own white picket fence 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #PointShoot xx
she is so lucky. We had one for the girls in our first home and made a little cafe next to it.
