I couldn’t imagine living my life without my memories.
Of course there are a million more things I could name, OK I will. Well maybe I won’t name a million. But my mind, my memories and the moments I experience everyday is by far my number one most prized posession.
I love my mind, it has always kind of been my curse, (it never shuts up), and my blessing, allowing me to think deeply, and live whole heartedly. This is why I also love my camera, it is an extension of me, of my mind, like my writing. My words capture moments I want to recall, or reflect upon. Whilst my camera does the same. When naming those things that I can’t imagine living without my camera is like my assistant. It is with these images I have captured, that I can show you why I love these things, or people, and why I don’t want to imagine my life without them. These are in no particular order.
My children
My Hubby and my puppy
Writing, therefore my laptop.
Mediation
Tea
Books
Beach
Water
ย Pumpkin Maisey
Bush walks
Birds
ย Flowers
Trees
Candles
Toby
Food
Of course some of these are necessities, some luxuries. I haven’t included photos here due to their privacy, but other people I can’t live without are my parents, my in laws, my brothers’ and sister in law, my sister (best friend) and her hubby, my 4 amazing nephews and my gorgeous niece. My wonderful friends, I have so many.
Then there is the superficial things like my jewellery, make up, hair straightener, car, oh my gosh clothes, we can’t forget clothes. My home, holidays, coffee, my bed, I love my sleep, ย and chocolate, I almost forgot chocolate!
Let’s face it there is probably many things on my list that I can actually survive without, but these are the things that make my life either easier or happier. The most important things are my family and my friends. I feel truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life!
Yes I would miss my coffee, and if my laptop broke I would take it pretty hard, but having the people I love around me is the most important thing to me. And this is why my mind and my memories are number one. My maternal Grandmother Hazel died of Alzheimer’s Disease, and in the end she didn’t remember her family, friends, or even how to care for herself. She was a very intelligent woman and yet by the end she knew very little.
Two years ago my own mother suffered a terrible disease which caused her to forget her family, her friends, her life. She was unable to walk, to care for herself, and we almost lost her. She has recovered, almost fully, a true miracle. But during those days where she looked at me like I was a stranger it was one of the most painful times I had experienced. I still recall when she said to me “why do you look like me?” It was the first sign that I meant something to her, she started coming back from there.
So my memories are so important to me and I do not take them for granted. I cherish each and every one like a precious stone. My writing and my photography help me capture those moments. And I chose to immerse myself in my life each and every day, even on the most painful days I stay present in my life.

It’s the difference between what could I not live without and what would I not like to live without; the second list is pretty long but the first pretty much starts and stops with my family – everything else is ultimately replaceable.
Very true! Thanks for commenting xx
Great post, very touching. Love the photos. Thanks for sharing your memories.
Thanks for coming by
Love the photos in this post! What a great share.
Thanks so much, what a lovely comment xx
Firstly, stunning photos! Secondly, how your post started – it oozed cuteness! And then it got all serious and really pulled at my heart strings. I am so glad to hear that you mum has mostly recovered. Its things like that that really make you wake up and realise (if you haven’t already) the value of life, family, memories and of time…Have a wonderful weekend Mac.
Absolutely, our family and memories are so precious. Have a great weekend too xx
The photos in this post are so stunning, as is the writing. It’s important to remember things that shape us and our loved ones. I’m so glad your mum came through her illness and you can refect back on it as a miracle. Thanks for hosting this linky – my first time joining in ๐ #fridayreflections
Thanks so much Lisa, we are thrilled that you have linked up xx And thank you for your comments, it means a lot
Wow ! Your list made me want to grab a book, head to the beach, switch off my phone/laptop and indulge in the present. ๐ Oh, all this while munching on a big plate of chocolate cake …. yummy !
I loved your list. It had all the items that I love having in my life. Sorry to hear about the life challenges you had to face (your grandmother’s illness and your mom’s life changing moments, I am glad she is fully recovered now!) As you said, life is to be lived and cherished every moment and that’s what inspires me to keep going every day. ๐
Glad my post inspired you to enjoy the present moment, that cake sounds great, I’m in!
So beautiful, Mac. I love your pictures and your sharing about your Mom. How wonderful that she recovered! Yes, we must cherish the present moments and make wonderful memories to treasure! โฅ
Thanks so much for your comment and your lovely words xx
I am blown away by your photographs. They are so beautiful. And I agree with everything you say. It is our memories that are so important and you have recorded yours in such a wonderful way. I love taking photographs too and recently lost my hard drive with years of photos stored on it. I was devastated. At least as you say as long as we have our minds we have a storehouse of memories. Alzheimers is a terrible disease, it is unimaginable to actually know you are slowly losing everything. I am so glad you got your Mum back.
Thank you this was a lovely and thoughtful comment, it meant a lot. Sorry about your photos, I would cry and cry
Your photos are sensational and I love your list, some made me smile, others nod along! Gorgeous ๐ I’d have to add sleep to my list. I just love it!!! I’d also really like to get into meditation – I’ve been saying for months but still haven’t put some time aside. I think I’m looking at it as a big thing to get my head around, but I’m sure it doesn’t have to be to start with? You’ll have to advise! Thanks for linking up to #Thelist Mackenzie xxxx
Thanks for such a lovely comment. Just start small, sometimes it is as simple as just concentrating on what’s present in the moment and not letting you mind wonder to what’s on your to do list. Just listen to the wind, birds, your breath, start small
Thanks so much for linking this up with #TwinklyTuesday lovely – I still can’t get over how stunning these photos are ๐ xx
Awe thanks so much, big compliment xx
