I couldn’t imagine living my life without my memories.

Of course there are a million more things I could name, OK I will. Well maybe I won’t name a million. But my mind, my memories and the moments I experience everyday is by far my number one most prized posession.

I love my mind, it has always kind of been my curse, (it never shuts up), and my blessing, allowing me to think deeply, and live whole heartedly. This is why I also love my camera, it is an extension of me, of my mind, like my writing. My words capture moments I want to recall, or reflect upon. Whilst my camera does the same. When naming those things that I can’t imagine living without my camera is like my assistant. It is with these images I have captured, that I can show you why I love these things, or people, and why I don’t want to imagine my life without them. These are in no particular order.

Of course some of these are necessities, some luxuries. I haven’t included photos here due to their privacy, but other people I can’t live without are my parents, my in laws, my brothers’ and sister in law, my sister (best friend) and her hubby, my 4 amazing nephews and my gorgeous niece. My wonderful friends, I have so many.

Then there is the superficial things like my jewellery, make up, hair straightener, car, oh my gosh clothes, we can’t forget clothes. My home, holidays, coffee, my bed, I love my sleep, ย and chocolate, I almost forgot chocolate!

Let’s face it there is probably many things on my list that I can actually survive without, but these are the things that make my life either easier or happier. The most important things are my family and my friends. I feel truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life!

Yes I would miss my coffee, and if my laptop broke I would take it pretty hard, but having the people I love around me is the most important thing to me. And this is why my mind and my memories are number one. My maternal Grandmother Hazel died of Alzheimer’s Disease, and in the end she didn’t remember her family, friends, or even how to care for herself. She was a very intelligent woman and yet by the end she knew very little.

Two years ago my own mother suffered a terrible disease which caused her to forget her family, her friends, her life. She was unable to walk, to care for herself, and we almost lost her. She has recovered, almost fully, a true miracle. But during those days where she looked at me like I was a stranger it was one of the most painful times I had experienced. I still recall when she said to me “why do you look like me?” It was the first sign that I meant something to her, she started coming back from there.

So my memories are so important to me and I do not take them for granted. I cherish each and every one like a precious stone. My writing and my photography help me capture those moments. And I chose to immerse myself in my life each and every day, even on the most painful days I stay present in my life.
