I have felt a little behind this week. Last week my youngest daughter was very sick and had a lengthy time home recovering from a terrible bug. We briefly had some relief over the weekend, all seemed to be getting back on track. I felt good, I was on top of the washing and ironing and we were able to get outside and enjoy the garden and time with friends. Sunday night things stared to go downhill. By Monday morning my older daughter and I both felt like our throats were on fire! I hadn’t felt a sore throat that bad since I was a kid. My head was loaded with bricks or something that made it almost impossible to lift and I could barely keep my eyes open.
So we visited the dreaded doctor, I mean don’t get me wrong doctors are great, but the germ infested waiting rooms and I just don’t have a mutual respect for one another. I armed myself with hand sanitiser and we set off. Sure enough we both had swollen tonsils and we went home feeling sad and sorry for ourselves. Have you ever kind of wished for a sick day so you can lay around watching trashy TV or reading a good book? Well it wasn’t that kind of sick day/s. I couldn’t stand the light, couldn’t look at my computer without feeling sick, or follow the words on a page. Yep it sucked. And to top it off I now have a pile of washing waiting for me!
I am still not well, it’s day 3, but I have picked up, as has Aspen, although she isn’t happy that she missed a fun school excursion today. And I am not happy that I can’t join my friend for a VIP shopping day that’s on today! But this will no longer be a sad and sorry post, no more whining about sore throats, missed shopping sprees (that I can’t afford anyway), no it’s time to suck it up (and avoid looking at washing pile), and realise how truly blessed I am. I have so much to be happy for. Here is my list of happiness for today!
- My new book arrived in the mail, so what if I don’t feel up to reading it yet, it looks pretty and smells new!
- I’ve had extra hugs with Aspen this week.
- I’m so grateful to have a hubby that cooks dinner, or my kids would have had toast the last few nights.
- People organising end of year Christmas gifts for the teachers, such a huge help right now.
- Pets, keeping Aspen and I company this week.
- Children that can play for hours with just their imagination and maybe some Shopkins toys.
- Toothbrushes, yes I did say toothbrushes. It’s nice to clean your teeth when having a sore throat leaves a yucky taste in your mouth.
- Fresh air. Just what I need when my head hurts.
- Lip balm, sometimes a girl needs lip balm.
- One month till Christmas, I love giving gifts and I am even going to admit I love getting them too. I’m such a kid!
So although I have spent the day in my PJ’s I still manage to find things to be happy about! What about you? What are you feeling happy about today?
Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx
Linked up with some fab links today, that makes me happy too.

Aw, I hope you’re feeling much better by the time the weekend rolls around again. *hugs*
Link this up on Friday morning, or if I remember I’ll do it for you.
Take care love xo
Thanks Lindsay, yes I jumped the gun a bit, but you inspired me to think happy thoughts xx
Aww that sounds awful, the sick bit I mean! My youngest started to cough this morning which means sick season has started and it will be passed to all of us… fun times ahead but it is important to note things to be grateful for! #happydiaries
Yuck. I had a recurring sore throat recently that made everything about life unpleasant. I’m afraid to say I wasn’t as positive about life as you. Great attitude and great list. Hope you’re feeling back to full strength soon x #happydiaries
I love that Shopkins army – they look ready to take down any germs! I hope you’re feeling better soon too x #HappyDiaries
I hate sick days. I have been battling headaches all week, both of my kids are home for Thanksgiving break and they have colds, and I have had to get my house clean for the guests coming over for dinner, to which I now have to get my turkey in the oven. I’m looking forward to tomorrow so that I don’t have to do anything. That’s my weekend plan anyway. I told my headache that I’m ignoring it until after Turkey Day! LOL! So far, it’s working. Visiting from #happydiaries
Nothing wrong with jumping the gun. 😉 I’m glad you linked up today. 😉 have a great weekend my friend xoxo
thanks beautiful xx
Hoping this finds you on the upswing and feeling better. I love the picture of the little toys, especially how they are all lined up like they are getting ready to either do group exercise or line dancing! When I first saw it, it reminded me of this little, colorful, scented erasers that were popular when I was in elementary school. I hadn’t thought about those things in years.
I’m not sure why she lines them up, but she loves doing it. Glad I could evoke a happy memory for you xx
How old is your child that organized all of those little toys? I am SO impressed!!!! My stepson can keep himself occupied for hours with legos. Husbands that cook dinner are heavenly, aren’t they??
lol, she is 8. Yes she is very good at amusing herself. Thanks for your comment x
Ha! I love spending the day in my pjs. I count that as something to be thankful for. But, I’m sorry you’ve been sick. When you have others to take care of when you feel like garbage is horrid. Especially when all you want to do is sleep it off! I hope that your throat feels better now, hot tea sure helps. Or a hot toddy, which will probably soothe your throat and send you into a deep sleep! I’m glad you could still find the good!
Hope you’re all feeling better now, we’ve been struck down with bugs here too, they’re really no fun.
I’m thankful for the hours the kids are at school and preschool, allowing me to catch up on blogging work!! xx
That is the first time I have ever seen toothbrushes on a lost of things to be thankful for 😀
Tonsilitus is horrible, so Im glad you and Aspen are now on the mend. Thanks for sharing with us, Tracey xx
