Sometimes the best days can just sneak up on you and take you by surprise, I guess that’s part of what makes them great, no expectations, just real moments. So the other day a fellow school mum mentioned the possibility of a mini road trip, there is a surf sale she goes to once a year that is in one of my favourite locations in the whole wide world, and she just bought a new car that was needing to be worn in. “I bought a Jeep!” She cried! So naturally it was a difficult decision, lots to weigh up, NOT, on one hand we had a day of housework, on the other hand was beach, sale, sunshine, good food, and great friends, yep a difficult choice for a girl to make!
So being mums we met in the school car park at morning drop off and jumped in our friends Jeep, “Road trip!” We squealed, two minutes down the road we make our first stop, well a girls gotta have her morning coffee and test out her friends new cars cup holders! On the road again and as I’m sure you can imagine it’s non stop chatter and laughs. An hour and a half later we see the sea, the gorgeous ocean spreads itself out in front of us, the sun is shining, this is going to be a great day . . . don’t speak too soon! One of the mum’s phones starts ringing, now I don’t know about all of you school mums out there, but when I see the caller ID displaying the number of the school, I go into full blown panic mode! As feared it’s the SICK BAY calling!
So here we are with the seaside, sunshine and a sale calling to us, we are a good one hour and forty minutes away from a little girl who is sitting in the school sick bay with a sore tummy! What’s a mum to do? The minutes that follow involve a scramble to call every known relative who can possibly pick up the poor little treasure, finally after a few calls JACKPOT, Grandma saves the day! We all celebrate and arrive at the sale! An hour later we all four walk out with a box of clothes and the owner of the store offers to pay for a bus if we bring more mums next year, (obviously we spent way too much!) Feeling more organised for Christmas though. The girls think it’s hilarious as we add up our spending and work out I spent the second most, as I had constantly told them all the way there that I was only coming for the ride, not to buy anything, oops!
We enjoyed a gorgeous lunch in the sun and then after another takeaway coffee was placed into the cup holders of the car we headed off back to the big smoke (reluctantly). My friend with the poor sick daughter rings Grandma to check in, only to be informed that since she was picked up the little treasure has been 100% fine! Grandma pops little treasure on the phone and her mummy asks her how her tummy is and wouldn’t you know it, she doesn’t even know what her mum is talking about!!!!!!! No kidding she has forgotten she even had a sore tummy! Needless to say we are all relieved. We arrive back at school before the bell goes, success all round, and all booked in for next years road trip! (With pre-organised emergency child pick-ups and thoughts of adding in an overnight stay, and possibly a massage!)
Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx

From all this i zeroed in on the fact that you mentioned cup holders. I have a weird obsession with cup holders. What is that about? If I buy a car it has to have them. The more the better. Weird! but maybe i’m not the only one. Maybe there is an entire society of crazies that meet once a week to talk about their disease. I’ve subscribed to your blog just in case you find the contact details for an 8 step program, you can hook me up.
lol, you made me laugh! I will hook you up for sure. I think all us writers are a little crazy. Thanks for subscribing and for the comments, I love feedback (is that a disease too?????)
