This week we added to our family. We rescued a dog called STAN. Officially Stan Gregori Peter. My husband thinks I have gone completely mad, and maybe I have (but shh don’t tell him that).
Actually my whole family think I am a little mad. My sister rang up to ask if that was a picture of me on Facebook at the animal rescue shelter. Um, yes it was. She asked my hubby if I was crazy adding another animal to our household? He said yes, and told her I was certified crazy. When my parents asked if hubby was pulling out his hair, he called out “I have none left”!
But in my defence I couldn’t help but adopt this little fella. He was neglected for 2 years by his previous owner, and they took him to the Vet to be put down. He is an American cocker Spaniel and his coat was mattered and tangled. He had a severe ear infection too.
The vet called the animal shelter, who agreed to take him on. He had surgery and was nursed back to health. This poor dog needed a loving home! And of course I knew just the loving home for him. He moved in on Friday and we surprised the children, especially my son who being 5 of course wanted his very own doggy.
We now have 5 chickens, a blogging puppy, a dog named Stan and 2 rescue kittens. I have promised my hubby Steve no more pets! It took some serious pleading to get him to agree to Stan. He loves animals, but they are a huge responsibility. Stan is like having a new puppy. He has had no training and needs to learn how to behave. If you have read my dog blog, you will know Holly-Rose is no role model when it comes to behaving either.
We started training with them both on Sunday. It was raining and we stood in a muddy paddock with raindrops dripping off our hats. It was such fun though!
The reason I have to question my sanity is I could easily rescue more, don’t worry hubby I will keep my promise. I just feel so awful that people treat their animals this way. Why can’t people understand the work involved in owning a pet? It isn’t all cuddles and throwing a ball. They need exercise, time, food, vet checks and de-sexing if they are around other animals. We have to think about their care when we go away and clean up all their mess and accidents. It is so rewarding having a pet, best thing ever, but remember that it’s hard work too.
So yes, our family has grown and I feel incredibly blessed to have them, and a husband who understands and supports my desire to help animals. I also love that we are teaching our children that it’s not about shopping for a designer dog, or the cutest cat. I love that they are learning about rescuing animals, and the importance of treating our animals with love and kindness.
And if you are a fan of Holly-Rose, don’t worry we wont neglect our little princess, just have a look how spoilt she was this week.
What are you feeling blessed about this week? I’d love to hear about what’s been happening in your family. Leave a comment, or link up with Mummy & Us below.

It makes me so annoyed when I hear about pets being neglected. They are a huge responsibility, I get that, but why would you get one to neglect it? I also get that people don’t look into it properly beforehand, but why don’t they? Aaaaghhh! It is a concern very close to my heart. Jack is the first pet that we have not rescued. Well done Mac! I don’t think you are mad but maybe that it because I am a bit too ha! I am just trying a recipe, if it works, I will link up tomorrow. Have a lovely day x
We’ll be mad and happily so together then! Jack is beautiful. Thanks for linking up lovely xx
Lucky Satn, finding such a wonderful home! Don’t feel crazy, our house always abounded with kids and animals. Some of the best memories of my life.
And LOVE that pink sweater on Holly Rose! She definitely rocks the pink!
Thanks Cathy it is pretty wonderful having a full and crazy household xx
How lovely; relating with animals teach us so much and definitely teaches children a lot. So wonderful that yours have you to instill positive values of responsibility and care in them from an early age. Indeed, dogs are not just for Christmas hey, behind the fun and games lies detailed care regimes. All the very best with your new addition and thanks for your lovely linky. So sorry that it’s taken me almost a month to fulfil my linky read here – this is hopefully the slowest I’ll be with linky reads ever again.. 🙂
The kids are just loving our crazy animal filled home, thanks for your comments xx
