Had someone said to me 2 years ago I would be a blogger I would have looked at them very strangely, the reason being I had never even heard of a blog! I had never read one, and I had no idea what was involved in being a blogger.
In October 2014 I finally heard of blogging, I met a lovely woman at my son’s kinder who was a book reviewer and had her own blog, when she spoke about it she just came to life before my eyes. After coffee with a good friend and a look on good old Google, I looked up how to start a blog, and on November 5th 2014 I started one! I still had not read a blog, I knew nothing about social media I hadn’t even ever had a Facebook account! So for me this was a massive, and slightly crazy step, yet somehow I knew this was something I really wanted, or even ‘needed’ to do for myself. I knew I had to write, I really ‘had’ to, and by creating a blog I was creating a space where I could write and where I could be myself.
It may have been a better idea to get to know more about blogging before I started, and since starting mine I have read lots of advice on starting a blog and I realise I really did it in a strange way. But even if I didn’t go about it the right way I have no regrets. Blogging for me was always about ‘writing’ and about being genuine, and following my passion and that is what I have always done. If I was to advise anyone who was thinking of starting a blog I would say read some before you start and set up your social media before you start too. But in saying that it really hasn’t held me back by not following that advice, and I wonder if maybe I would have been so intimidated by some of the talented bloggers out there that I would have been too scared to start mine? I am after all my own worst critic! But I am becoming more confident in myself and although I am still amazed by how many people subscribe to my blog I am starting to realise that I have something to offer as a writer and as a blogger.
I may not have have started my blog in the so called ‘correct way’, but I love my little part of the world wide web, I love reflecting, I love sharing my passion for writing with you, and I will always be immensely grateful to everyone who reads my blog. So yes two years ago I would have looked at you and wondered ‘what is a blog?” And if you had have told me I would be on Youtube I would have thought that was even stranger, but sometimes life is surprising and sometimes I still surprise myself by getting out of my comfort zone. And truth be told I am glad I do!
So here is my latest Vlog on Youtube, all about being a blogger and answering some questions from the bloggers tag. Enjoy! And thanks for all your support xx
Thanks for joining me, love Mac xx

I never would have guessed that I’d be blogging either, never mind devoting so much time and energy to it. Funny how sometimes an idea pops into your head and away you go #anythinggoes
so true, it really was like that for me too
None of this was in the cards for me either. I still cannot properly set up my voicemail…yet somehow I figured out how to do all of this.
#anythinggoes
haha I know what you mean I am so not technical yet I do this
Pretty much the same here. I am so rubbish with all technical stuff. I remember looking into starting a blog some months ago and it looked so scary. But now, I have no regrets. I love it and I am pretty addicted too! I love this kind of post and discover more about the blogger behind a post. #AnythingGoes
Thanks Frenchie, I am so glad you took the leap too!
Isn’t it just awesome!
It really is!
I have been blogging for a year but it has only been the last few months that I really feel like I am a part of a little community if that makes sense. I love writing but really hate promoting myself so that is always a bit of a struggle. I love your blog – it always gives me a sense of calm especially on a Monday morning! #dreamteam
thank you so much! I love your blog too and loved those cup cakes this week!
Fab vlog! I am the same with the techical stuff. I need to have a go at making one of these 🙂 #KCACOLS
you really should, it can be intimidating but it is fun too
Nope that was the wrong one! I should have put #dreamteam
thanks xx
Great post. I’d always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was a small child and toyed with the idea of blogging, until I finally did it last year. It’s my passion, it’s my hobby and it often keeps me sane (while also leaving me on the periphery of insanity sometimes). I’ve made some great friends blogging and the community – on the whole, is fabulous. #dreamteam
it really is fabulous, I love the community and blogging is so addictive
Lovely to hear more about you and to meet you on the vlog! My blog started just like yours – I hadn’t even read another blog before. Oh, how things have changed in a few months – it’s been an incredible journey already and it’s interesting to hear that your journey is similar. Keep up the brilliant work! Alison x DreamTeam
thanks honey! Oh that is great to hear how you started too. Thanks Alison, love your blog!
I didn’t start mine in the correct way and still don’t do things in the correct way, but if you love blogging thats the best thing!
so true! Totally agree
ooop – #dreamteam
Lovely honest post. I don’t think there is a ‘right’ way to start a blog. You did it YOUR way 🙂 It’s great to see bloggers who write just to write, woman after my own heart! Mrs C #twinklytuesday
oh thank you!
I had no idea how to set up a Blog when I started, I did it all completely upside down! We all get there in the end though, I think as long as you enjoy it your winning!
#anythinggoes
you’re*
thanks so much lovely!
The first time I heard of blogging I think was Perez Hilton or someone nuts like that…he wrote about the celebs! Then a couple of my friends started doing it and I was a bit indifferent…until I felt I needed more of a hobby. I’m soooo glad I started as have made some awesome friends, had some fab ops and can’t imagine stopping! xx #twinklytuesday
It’s never late. What’s important is finding and doing what we love. Isn’t it? My story is also similar. I just got into it by reading the newspaper. So, imagine the connection but it worked. 🙂
It is great hearing how different bloggers made their start, thanks for sharing xx
I have always loved writing (since school) so blogging is perfect for me. I’ve still got loads to learn so always good to get some sound advice.
I know writing is so addictive isn’t it!
I’m really enjoying your vlogs Mac! I keep meaning to start but run out of time. I don’t know how to edit etc either so it’s putting my off a bit but I’m working up to it! Tor xx
oh I would love to see you in a Vlog I think it would be something you would be a natural at xx
I really enjoyed your vlog, it is great to put a voice to a person it gives a another dimension about the person X #vlogstars
it really does, I really enjoy watching all the vlogstars videos
i have not been brave enough to vlog but well done and yes its strange how blogging comes to us #bloggerclubuk
Trust me I am not brave, but it is fun xx
You know I didn’t actually realise that there was a right way or a wrong way. I’m just pleased to have met you – virtually anyway. #TwinklyTuesday
oh thank you so much, what a lovely thing to say, I am glad to have met you too
My mummy fell into blogging by accident. She used to write in her Journel after I was born and started scrapbooking, then she had an accident and hurt her hand so couldn’t grip a pen anymore. BUT she could type! Hence the blog! 😉 Great post xx#TwinklyTuesday #DreamTeam
I am glad your mummy found blogging, she is great at it!
I started just by stroke of luck really, on a whim, but it paid off. Thanks for sharing your story and linking up to #TheList xx
We are sure glad you started, you are such an inspiration!
Heh, I’m not sure there is a ‘correct’ way to start a blog, despite what some people will tell you. If it feels right, it is right. I stumbled in to blogging too – seven blogs later I’m just a few months short of celebrating my tenth anniversary. Gulp!
wow that is awesome, well done!
For someone who started so recently, you’re doing beautifully, Mac. Love you and your blog!
I always love your vlogs and it’s been lovely to get to know you too! I love blogging for the writing too and your content always comes across as honest and really genuine. Thanks for linking up to #dreamteam
thanks lovely, love your blog also xx
I have learned so much from blogging. I’ve been blogging for around 21 months now and I didn’t plan it either. I can’t even believe I can do most of the things I can do either – I mean I had no idea what coding was! It’s amazing really – I love writing and I’ve learned more than I could have possibly anticipated. I need to try vlogging too but haven’t built the confidence yet! Thanks for linking up to #AnythingGoes
I know we learn so much don’t we. Yu should try Vloging it’s a lot of fun xx
Just back again! I still love this post. We have learnt so much from blogging, haven’t we? 🙂 #bigpinklink
Hi Mac, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for when I started blogging. It has been a much better experience than I ever expected. I threw myself into it going self hosted only a couple of weeks after starting on Blogger (that was a very sweaty time, I can tell you!).
I can’t believe how fab and supportive the blogging community is or how much I have had to learn in the name of blogging.
xx
It’s only been one year for me and I still can’t believe I’m blogging. Sometimes I don’t want to but when I do I love doing it. I love writing what I write and I do it for that reason. I choose to use my blog also to express myself and to just be me.Popping over from #bigpinklink
Congrats on joining the youtube ranks I’ll have to check out your video. I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough or IT clever enough to ne on screen. #bigpinklink
This is a lovely post. I also had literally no idea what a blogger was before I started. I definitely had no clue that it was a whole other world! I love having a little corner of the internet where I can write. Thanks for sharing with the #bigpinklink
You know something? i also got out of my comfort zone with vlogging. And now? I absolutely love it and all that v/blogging entails 🙂
