I’ll be happy when . . . .? We are all so used to these words being part of our vocabulary that we don’t even notice how often we use them.
- I’ll be happy when I have a boyfriend
- I’ll be happy when my boyfriend proposes
- I”ll be happy when I buy a new car
- I’ll be happy when I loose weight
- I’ll be happy when I get a job/promotion
- I’ll be happy when the kids go back to school/ start school holidays
- I’ll be happy when we can afford our dream home
Happiness does not depend on external things, happiness is not about arriving at something that for now is out of reach, happiness is enjoying the road you are on. It is about making choices every day that make you happy in the now, not about waiting until you ‘get something or someone’. Often if you eventually get to the so called ‘pot of gold at the end of the rainbow’ what you wanted will have changed anyway. You may not want gold anymore, you may want diamonds. You may finally build the dream house and then decide your taste has changed. Our desires, tastes and goals are constantly changing and we need to enjoy the journey or else we miss out on enjoying a huge part of our lives. Yes it is great to have a goal and it can feel like a wonderful achievement when you get there. You should celebrate your achievements and you should be proud, but don’t miss out on the journey and what that has to offer along the way.
Embrace the journey, embrace life, love today, love right now!

Wow, we really need this reminder regularly! Thanks for sharing.
we do don’t we xx
Ugh I keep saying “I’ll be happy when we move.” But we don’t plan on moving for a few years so…. that could be a problem.
Hi, MG. I nominated you for the Blogger Recognition Award. I hope you’ll accept it.
Yup, do it now!
Love this, it is so true, we all need a reminder xx
This is a great post and so true. We always seem to want more or think there is better. Happiness is what we make it. Thanks got linking up to #justanotherlinky x
What a great reminder and one that I really need right now – thanks for the pep talk! #justanotherlinky
You are do right, quite often we can long for what we don’t have instead of recognising what we have and the happiness with that 🙂
Thank you for the much needed reminder, Mackenzie 🙂
Popping over from #justanotherlinky =) Absolutely perfect! I used to be the “I’ll be happy when..” person. Took a step back and asked myself why I needed those things to happen. I didn’t like the selfishness I saw. now I wake up and choose to be happy. Or not 😉
Come share your crafts, DIY’s, recipes & up-cycles at #2usestuesday (Mon PM to Fri PM) & your pinnable images at #Pinbellish (Fri AM to Tues AM) over at Sarah Celebrates if you don’t already!
I agree with you. I often times find myself living in my future self – where I want to be five years down the road, where I want to live, what I want to wear…instead of focusing my energy on the “now”. Can’t live your whole life looking beyond today. Nice post and thanks for sharing it at Welcome Home Wednesday – come back tomorrow!
