It is not always easy to stay motivated and be as productive as we would like in our daily lives as a parent, or in our career. I recently published an article about curiosity and how following our natural born curious nature can help us lead a happier and more productive life. To read about this just click HERE. But today I want to share some other tips on how to expand your chances for success and happiness, and to improve motivation in the areas you feel you are lacking that ‘get up and go‘ in.
What is it that makes some people more successful in their lives than others? I love this quote above by Steve Jobs as I truly believe that when we embrace our curiosities and have a hunger for knowledge and life, we are more likely too succeed! But I also love how he says “Stay foolish“, I think if we try to be to precise and analytical we often talk ourselves out of giving things a try. We give up before we dare to start!
I am not a great ‘morning person’, and many of my university assignments were written well into the night. But the truth is that most successful people have one thing in common and this is a great morning routine. Whether your morning starts at 5am, or 9am making a few healthy changes to your morning routine will help you become a more successful person in your life, in love and in your career aspirations.
- Many people swear by a morning cup of coffee to get them going in the morning, but if you switch to a warm cup of water with some freshly squeezed lemon it is said to be a natural energy source which also aids digestion, improves liver function, bowel movements and reduces our daily stress levels.
- Everyone has heard by now that exercise improves your mood (and let’s face it we can all do with being in a better mood in the morning), but it can also help us focus. If you want to be more productive and happier to be around try doing even just ten minutes of exercise before work or study.
- Don’t check your phone the minute you wake up! (Except to see the time). Looking at your phone for missed calls overnight, texts or tweets can cause stress before your morning routine has even began. Give yourself time to wake up properly and enjoy your workout and shower before looking at what’s happening on social media.
- In relation to the above dot point the same goes for emails! No matter how important you are, even if you are a company owner or CEO, your email can wait 20 minutes for you to get up have a warm glass of lemon water, a ten minute walk and a quick shower. Unless you are Superman/woman or Batman/woman I am sure an email can wait 20 minutes.
- Breakfast. Yes I know that those of you who don’t eat breakfast will be (just about) impossible to convince to start now. But we all know that to get our brain functioning properly a healthy breakfast is so important. Take the time to eat a healthy breakfast, even if it means getting up a little earlier. Some healthy cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, or eggs with spinach. Even if you prepare a bowl the night before to save time, or take a homemade smoothie in the car with you, you need to eat breakfast. Plus if you are a parent it is important to lead by example with your kids to set them up for future health and success. When Steve jobs says ‘stay hungry‘ I am sure he means with your hunger for knowledge or achievements, not food!
Starting with a good morning routine followed by a healthy dose of curiosity and hunger for life will be guaranteed to lead to a happier and more productive life for you and those around you. Do you have a good morning routine? Share your tips for success with us below.

I have been in a funk lately because of being sick and some stress and I notice a change in my body and my mind when I go too long without exercise. My morning routine has been interupted and because of that I have been…off. A great morning routine is essential for me as well as breakfast and exercise, even though eating breakfast is really hard for me as I’m not a breakfast person but I try to make myself eat a little something before working out. I didn’t know that checking my phone and emails when I first wake up actually adds stress. These are all great tips! Thanks so much for hosting #mg
I’m sorry you have been in a funk lately, I hope your health picks up soon. Our health really affects how we feel about our entire life and vice versa. I know when I am stressed I feel so ill. Keep nurturing your mind and body. Thank you for such a great comment xx
Good morning and happy Monday, from this coffee swilling breakfast skipper 🙂
lol, you make me laugh
I love this and the Steve Job’s quote is very motivating. I am crap in the morning, I check my phone straight away and probably waste a good half hour on it when I could be exercising/showering before my son wakes up. I never understand people who don’t eat breakfast, I would be fainting by mid morning with no food in me. Definitely going to try and take some of your advice and sort out my morning routine xx #mg
Thanks Wendy, I think the thing with checking phones and emails is that the time gets away from us. I think I’ll just check Instagram quickly and 30 mins is gone and then I am stressed and running late.
Thank you so much for the feature! I’ve always been a curious person, love to learn. As for the get going tips: warm water with lemon – after 2 days I had severe heartburn, I’ll stick to coffee 😉 Not checking your phone – I purposely turned off email notifications on my phone because I WAS checking them and ruining my day with nasty work emails. No more!
We all know what works best for our bodies and the lemon is obviously not right for you. Good on you for taking control over those emails!
Another inspirational post! I don’t know how you do it! I waste so much time in the morning faffing around in my dressing gown eating toast and nosying on social media, I really need to get a better routine and make more or my time! I love the Steve Jobs quote, really great post. Thanks for posting. #mg
haha don’t worry honey I have plenty of mornings like that too, like when the kids are on holidays.
Good tips, I am TERRIBLE at eating a decent breakfast. I’m not hungry when I wake up, so skip it and then chow down on a load of croissants at work. Oh well! #mg
I love croissants! Yummy! A lot of people find they can’t eat breakfast first thing, it is OK to wait a while but try to even have a few berries just to give you a fresh energy boost.
I’m finally linking up! And early too!
I couldn’t agree more that having a morning routine sets the tone for the day and is perfect way to get you going and set for the remainder of the day. Rarely do I mix up my mornings and when I do, I’m late and all discombobulated!
Thanks for sharing my friend 😉 xo
Yay so happy to have you all linked up, can’t wait to read your post!!
I can’t get the badge code to work. Not sure if it’s the code or me, or if anyone else has had that problem?
Don’t worry, I have hopefully fixed it now, but all is good xx
Great tips here. I’m a big fan of a morning routine (actually a bit of a routine in general) not to say there’s no time to be spontaneous, but it’s nice to know what you want to do in a day. That way you don’t waste time. I have a lemongrass tea each morning, my other half makes me a cup in a travel cup so I can sip it in the traffic and at work. It’s a great start to the day.

P.s. I couldn’t get your badge to work either, but I’ve copied the image and linked it.
Thanks so much for linking, sorry about the badge, I think it’s all fixed now. Sounds like you have great routine going and it is even better when our partner supports you xx
A good morning routine is really important – my sole aim is get both me and the Tubblet on the bus, washed, dressed and ready to go! However we get there 😉
yes it can feel like that!
Your point about sluggish starts leading to sluggish days is very true. Also phone checking. It’s just become automatic and as with other posters I’ve found half an hour disappears in an eye blink.
While success at work is important I also want to make sure that I take the time to have a cuddle before diving out the door!
I know what you mean, and it is so nice to find time for a hug rather than checking messages
I take a few minutes each morning to just sit and breathe. I think its important to not just jump out and bed and hit the ground running every day. I also need to be better at not checking my phone first thing. That’s really good advice.
thanks lovely xx
