Some days a holiday just seems so far off, our bodies and our minds are tired, worn down with the daily tasks we have. There is so much running around to do, between jobs, family commitments, financial constraints, social media updates and housework to complete it feels like we are never going to get a break for 5 minutes let alone a much needed holiday. So how do we make a bad day a better day? How do we find ‘me time’ in the craziness of our day? How do we feel rested when there is no time to rest?
I can’t magically give you more time, I know sorry about that, it would be nice wouldn’t it? Or would it? I mean if I gave you more time what would you do with it? Would you actually spend that time relaxing. or would you use it to do more work or browse social media? That’s the thing, is it that we don’t have enough time, or that we just don’t prioritise time to relax? How often do you get an ache or pain, a headache, and instead of listening to your body and slowing down you pop a pill and keep going? I get it I do, I have 3 kids and as a parent I know it is hard to switch off, I can’t take a shower in peace let alone take a sick day!
But it’s not all negative, there are ways to nurture yourself throughout the day. Some ways to take care of yourself, your mind and body so that you are less likely to get sick or burn out. It may feel impossible, but if you don’t prioritise yourself even just a little, you want be able to look after those you love anyway.
Here are some daily things you can do to feel better and look after yourself.
- Drink more water. I know it may sound silly, but by drinking more water throughout the day you are giving your body exactly what it craves. You may not be a fan of drinking water, but the more you get used to it the more enjoyable it will become. Try adding a squeeze of fresh lemon or some ice cubes. A great way to remember to drink water is to have a water bottle with you, or keep a jug on the bench at home. You will soon find that you get less headaches and have more energy.
- Sunshine. Our bodies need sunlight. Try and get outside at least once a day. Take a short walk or just stand outside and stretch. If you can’t get outdoors then sit by a window and allow the sunlight to stream onto your body.
- Breathe. Yes I know you are already breathing, but are you shallow breathing? Take a moment wherever you are and take at least 5 deep breathes, breathe right down into your tummy. Try and do this every hour until it becomes more of a habit. Sometimes it helps to do it at certain times so it becomes easier to remember. Try upon waking up, in the shower, or even when you are on the toilet throughout the day.
- Drink some tea, try lemon, chai, camomile or peppermint these can help calm and relax you.
- Find a quiet moment, even if it is just before you go to sleep to think of 3 things you are grateful for. It can be big things but try and keep it simple, remember to be thankful for the little moments in each day. Being thankful helps you focus on the positives in your life and directs the negative vibes away. It can help reduce aches in your body and eliminate stress tension.
Hope these little hints are helpful, give them a go each day this week and let me know if you feel the difference. What other helpful hints can you share?
Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx

Thank you for these tips, I really need a bit of encouragement today! I need to focus more on breathing right I think, that would help a lot x
hugs honey, glad I could help a bit xo
These are great tips – I find it so hard to make time for breathing exercises but it’s so importantx #bestandworst
It’s so easy as a parent to get into the vicious cycle of using down time (or nap time!) to go at a million miles an hour to do all the jobs that desparately need doing or working Mummy’s to try and fit everything in. We put way too much pressure on ourselves to do it all, have it all and seamlessly achieve it all when in fact it’s really easy to lose sight of the bigger picture which for me is having a healthy and happy family. It has taken me a while to realise that my family aren’t healthy and happy if I’m not and that I really need to take care of myself. It’s a constant battle to remind myself to do this so I will take your tips on board and try to start implementing more of these. Thanks so much for sharing. #bestandworst
There’s so much we take for granted, including the simple yet necessary act of breathing. Mindful breathing and all the other tips you’ve mentioned can go a long way to make our day better.
I hope you’re having good days, Mac. Thinking of you. Hugs.
Thanks Corinne, your continued support always means so much more than I can say
Some excellent advice here! That I’m saving so I remember to actually follow it instead of self medicating with coffee! #bestandworst
What a fab post, I am really bad at chilling out and relaxing, I can’t seem to ever do it! I do try and drink plenty of water but I will try after reading this. Thanks so much for sharing with the #bestandworst I really enjoyed reading it and hope you’ll link up again! 🙂 x
Great tips, Mackenzie. Simple yet powerful! 🙂 These tips, even though we know them, we tend to forget them.
Excellent advice especially, in my case, drinking more water. I forget to hydrate myself and though I don’t get headaches, I do get sleepy or even doze off. Starting tomorrow, I’ll do everything you recommend. Just have to remind myself.
Great post and I love that quote. Thanks for sharing on #justanotherlinky xx
I really needed to read this today – thank you! 2 nights of terrible sleep and feeling like I’m coming down with something has left me in a bit of a grump today. Today, I am just going to relax 🙂 Great post! Hx
Perfect tips. I’m trying to stop having coffee again and needed to be reminded to breathe 🙂

I do think a cup of tea in a quiet place is a great way to relax you.
