Growing up I had it all figured out, life is going to be so super duper awesome, I’d close my eyes tight in bed at night and be like, “please let me wake up a GROWN UP tomorrow!” Fall asleep, wake up and ….. nope guess that wish didn’t come true. Now it’s more like go to bed and wish ‘I can get a decent nights sleep’. When I finally get the kids bed time routine over with, (no jokes it can take a lifetime, songs, stories, chats and more songs), I am like “please, please can they stay in their beds!” Nope that has failed to happen too! Followed by please can my children sleep all through the night, including the dog, and can my bladder please wait until morning to wake me up for the toilet run (why do I always have that second cup of tea before bed?), because I just really need a solid 8 hours sleep! Or I could be greedy and ask for 10!
Growing up I had my future children all figured out too, I was having six, a boy, another boy, a girl, another girl and then twin girls, I even had names figured out, oh and I was going to be a school teacher (I must have really loved kids)! I ended up as a nurse whose major was psychology and social studies, now a freelance writer. I was always going to write a novel though, so I got something right.
Growing up I believed I could be anything, along with my teaching I would also dabble in acting, one day staring alongside my then crush Christian Slater
he would fall madly in love with me of course, and then he and Emilio Estevez would have a fight over me and I would marry one or the other depending on the day, naturally.
Or sometimes I had my “older man crush” going on, gotta love Harrison Ford, must admit if I was still going to crush on any of them it would have to be Harrison.
Of course though I only crush on my amazing husband!!!! (Just in case he reads this post).
My point is men are hot, oh no that is not my point at all, I would never objectify a man, I listen to Jensen Ackles!
My point is that growing up we have dreams, we have ambitions, some crazy, some outrageous, some just, well embarrassing to admit now we are adults, (OK fess up how many of you have sung into a hairbrush)??
Not me, not ever! Some of our childhood dreams are reachable though, according to Taylor Swift she used to sing into her hairbrush as a young girl, so don’t give up hope just yet! Some of my growing up dreams did come true, I married a gorgeous man, I have at least half the children I planned on having (and that’s enough), I may not be an actress, but hey a blogger’s even better right? At least I don’t have to deal with the paparazzi!!
Tweet me “I may sing into my hairbrush, but I’m still awesome and super cool” lol, rock on!
Growing up isn’t always easy, all our little childhood problems just grow into adult ones, but if it is possible for us to take something from the innocence of our childhood dreams and bring them forth into our adult lives, then we should go for it. We often look at children now, whether they are ours, or others and we long to see through their innocent eyes again, and in a way we can. Take a moment and stand outside, pick up a leaf and feel it, study it like it is the first leaf you have ever touched, look at the clouds and imagine they are animals, what can you see? Be inspired by the beauty of nature or the smile on a child’s face. If you need some Inspiration look at some of the beautiful reflections images at the bottom of this blog. Next time you’re at the beach build a huge sandcastle and cover it in shells or pebbles. Feel like a child again, by sometimes letting go of your inhibitions and acting like a child for a moment, pick up that hairbrush and sing and dance, remember to have fun everyday! Yes we have responsibilities, yes we have to act grown up, but sometimes it is OK to remember your inner child and let her loose!

When I looked at the prompts for this weeks Wellness Wednesday post I chose the prompt
- “A post that starts with a word: GROWING”
- Why? Well because it inspired me, and that’s what we have to continue to embrace in our lives, find the things that inspire us and have fun with them.
Go on have a little FUN, and if anyone says you’re acting a little too crazy just blame it on ‘mg‘ aka me!
Thanks for joining me, love Mackenzie xx

You had me at Christian Slater, girl! Boy, I had some big crush on him in my younger years hahaha.
I absolutely love how you take this prompt, make it fun then hit home run on the last part. I sometimes feel we as adults lost our innocence along the way of being a grown up. Children really lives in the moment, in the now and that is so precious. I need to master the art of doing that more.
Thank you as always for joining us. Love your post and Wellness Wednesday always feels much better with you!
PS: Love that picture, freedom of a child, the joy…ah, so beautiful!
Thanks for you positive feedback, I love being part of Wellness Wednesday! Yes Christian Slater was delicious back in the day!
😀 Really enjoy your post! The pics are soo fun! TFS MG.. ^^ growing growing growing…
Thanks Yanet, love the feedback
Growing is an art. Understanding that we make the best choices based on the information that we had at that time and getting over our slip ups makes us stronger.
Have a lovely Wednesday!
Absolutely, as long as we attempt to do our best we are moving in the right direction xx
What a fun post! Love that you knew exactly how many kids you would have and their names. Great reminder that as we grow that we don’t lose our inner child and all the wonderfulness she has. The pictures are beautiful, definitely much better than the snow I’m seeing every day. 🙂
Oh yes I had it all planned, but plans change as we grow, I was going to call my daughter D.J after the girl on the TV show Full House, I thought her name was super cool, but like I said plans change, haha. Glad you liked the pics too, thanks for coming by!
Oh beautiful reminder and I smiled on that fight between Emilio and Christian 😀 I used to believe that I would marry Ronan Keating and my bedroom was fully decorated with Jordan Knight…yeah boyband freek haha…. Hmm and the fact that I have a crush on Harry Styles still cannot be justified by my age -_-‘ But I am with you on Harrison Ford!
Childhood crushes are so much fun to look back on, glad you enjoyed my post as it was fun to write. Harrison Ford yum!
