Leaves crunch
her feet are still smaller than mine,
yet she grows taller everyday.
Her hair is the colour of autumn
her blue eyes as crisp as the winter sky looks today
her scattering of freckles are autumn brown.
She throws a pile of leaves high above her head
they fall over her
giggles ring out and travel to my ears like a song
I feel like I am home!
She is like a springtime sensation to my senses
in my embrace, her hair,
a mix of yellow, golden flecks and orange
smells like innocence.
I want to hold onto her forever,
but she is a free spirit
she has never truly belonged to me.
She is a child of the earth
of the ever changing seasons.
My autumn born girl
who brings me the joy of summer.
Kylie

Oh, the bittersweet seasons of childhood! Our kids are so much a part of us, and yet always and forever separate and their very own person.
Beautiful. Brought back really fond memories of crunching and dancing with my Mum through Autumn leaves. It’s so difficult to work out how to let them go and protect them especially as they get older and especially if like me, you don’t have that much faith in your own self sometimes anyway. But a beautiful tribute all the same #ABloggingGoodTime
What a beautiful tribute to your daughter! We DO want to hold on to them, don’t we? But we must let them fly away, which is a good thing!
Beautifully written. Your words definitely conjure up your autumnal girl. #ABloggingGoodTime
A lovely seasonal tribute to your autumn girl #ABloggingGoodTime
What a lovely seasonal poem for you and your daughter to hold onto #ablogginggoodtime
It’s beautiful, what a lucky girl she is to have a mum who sees her so clearly #ablogginggoodtime
What a beautiful poem to your autumn girl! Children sure do grow up fast, don’t they?
I’ve always loved the name Autumn, but the trouble is our surname is Brown so I never had the guts! #ablogginggoodtime
This brought back so many memories #stayclassymama@_karendennis
Beautiful!! I think it will mean a lot of different things to different people. #StayClassyMama
That is a really lovely poem. It reminds me to hold onto that time when they are small as it is fleeting. Thanks for sharing with the #DreamTeam
My daughter is a September baby so we have they dying embers of summer and the beginning of autumn. This is so real and beautiful, and I’m sure many mums and daughters can relate. Thanks for sharing with #stayclassymama
That is so beautiful. I love the part about she never really belonged to you. I think as parents that is a feeling that is hard to accept but we must in order to allow our children the freedom to grow and become their own people. Just beautiful Kylie! #ABloggingGoodTime
