Over the past 3 weeks of my art class we have been asked to think about 3 questions;
- Where are you right now with your life?
- Where do you want to go from here in order to feel more fulfilled in your life?
- Finally, but importantly; what steps, or path will you take to get there?
I have been working on 3 separate art pieces to answer these questions, delving deep into my subconscious and allowing myself the time and freedom to work on these pieces without worrying what anyone will think of them. We were invited to use any art form we wished, total freedom to let our creative vibes flow.
The great thing about having no pressure, or judgement (other than what we naturally put on ourselves), combined with encouragement and a working space, is that it allows you to really open your mind to possibilities and to use your heart to be truly free to explore how you feel.
The questions are tough. On the surface maybe you can answer them easily, but they are actually very deep and possibly life changing questions. By using art to answer them, as opposed to words (although we can use words if we wish), is it brings out different emotions and for me personally it helped me feel less restricted, if I wanted to reach for a certain art material, or I was drawn to a colour then I just went with my gut.
I know we can not all have the luxury of a class to help us explore these questions, but I encourage you to think about these questions and even you do not consider yourself a budding artist just give it a go. Be a child again, let instincts guide you. Abandon, (even if just for a few moments) the constraints of adulthood and overthinking things. Play, explore, imagine, dream. Remember when you didn’t know what you would grow up to be and you were free to dream of the life you would create, well tap into that inner child and see what comes up for you.
I think this is something we can all benefit from, no matter what our age. Do let me know if you give it a try, and I would love to hear where you hope to be headed over the following months, and what small steps can you begin to take in order to get a little closer to the life you want?
Thanks for reading, love Mackenzie xx

Great advice that I am going to try to follow #,stayclassymama@_karendennis
I’m a little directionless (you’re post made me feel a little guilty to be honest, as I’m old and still fluttering around like a butterfly). However I am great at the abandon – with both the Torschlusspanik list and the Wednesday Club, I’m trying new things and doing a lot of activities that boarder on the kooky. I’m old but I find myself turning up to activities where the rest of the class is 20. There’s something quite liberating about that – you’re already the weird one so you might as well double down and do whatever you want. (Like when I couldn’t do the hip hop moves so just made up ones of my own…hehehe). Interesting post. You’ve got me thinking. #StayClassyMama
When I was much younger, and in therapy, I had no voice (can you believe that)! I used my art to explain all of my feelings and emotions. It was rather cathartic and a gift to my therapist to see what I couldn’t explain. Keep at your work, and if/when I get some time, I will do it too. I would love nothing more ! Lovely post my truly authentic friend! #ablogginggoodtime xoxo
It’s such a difficult question that I honestly don’t have an answer. But I recently signed up for a 10k run which is taking place this day three weeks and I am really excited. Nothing helps me clear my head like running and I have been pushing myself a little bit extra each week. My muscles are aching and it feels great. Even though they are sore it is just so good to feel something. So that is my focus at the minute. Running, lots of music and aching muscles! I’m so glad that art is helping you express yourself so well #ablogginggoodtime
As adults and particularly as parents it is rare that we step back and re-evaluate our individuality and sense of self. This is one of the elements that I have enjoyed about being a parent to older children, my time is more my own to explore what matters to me and to visualise a future beyond the inevitable constraints of parenting. I love that you are doing this through art Mac – it seems the most natural medium aside from words and it will be interesting to see where this journey takes you. For me I am picking up abandoned hobbies and exploring new ones whilst together my husband and I are looking for a building renovation project of a home outside of London that has been a shared dream of ours for many years. #ABloggingGoodTime
I thiknk it is good to reflect but I honestly have no idea what my answers to these questions would be! I think some sleep would help me to make more of each day. Thanks for linking up with #stayclassymama
