I remember when my home didn’t feel like home,
when it felt like a lonely and scary place,
I remember that I didn’t want to go home,
I’d do all I could do to stay away,
I didn’t feel nurtured, beautiful or inspired,
so I guess it wasn’t a home then at all!
Because a home should be a safe place,
truly it should!
It should feel like a safe place to lay your head,
a place to feel nurtured and warm,
a place where there is room for laughter and happiness,
yet room for it to be ok to make mistakes without fear.
I have a home now,
I have a space that I fill with flowers, candles and soft furnishings,
I fill it with pretty things and take lots of pretty pictures,
but more than that I have a space where I feel safe.
I have a place I can call ‘home’ because it is truly my soft place to fall.
It is filled with giggles of children,
and an excited dog who welcomes us home,
a man who loves me for all my weirdness,
and I totally love him back for his.
If home is where the heart is,
then there is one thing I know for sure,
I have found the best kind of home,
and I love going through that front door!

I love this! It’s so lovely. I feel lucky that I came from a very happy childhood home and other than a few uni houses in between I moved in with my now husband, so I’ve known how wonderful it is to have a good home to go to and how special those places are. I love your tips too – I definitely think getting rid of things you don’t like is a good one and surprisingly a lot of people don’t do it! #stayclassymama
I agree Ellen not enough people get rid of things that they don’t like. I am so happy you have such a wonderful home xx
Oh this is really lovely! I have actually written a post this week where I try to work out what home means to me! A big part of what makes a home is the lovely people that we surround ourselves with 🙂 #stayclassymama
Oh wow I’ll have to pop over and read it, thanks for commenting xx
I’m glad you’ve finally got a place to call home x
#stayclassymama
thank you so much xx
Lovely. Fortunately I’m one of those people that see everywhere as home – even when we travel the hotel room becomes home…my kids appear to be turning out the same….
oh that’s great, I think when we are happy we are at home

Hi Mac, what a beautiful post! It really moved me, a joy to read. So happy that home has moved on to be such a welcome for you. Mainy x
What a lovely post 🙂 I feel happy when I’m at home with all my brood here 🙂 x #fartglitter
This is so beautiful Mackenzie. Love how you call your home your “soft place to fall”. I have moved 24 times and I totally agree that its the small touches that can truly and quickly make a house your home. I’m so happy for you having found your safe and happy place to be you xx Thanks for linking with #fartglitter x
Aaah this is lovely Mac — beautiful words and I LOVE your film too!! So nice to hear your voice and see you speaking 🙂 #TwinklyTuesday
I always want my children to know that home is the place where you are allowed to make mistakes and be supported through them. #TwinklyTuesday
So true. Home is nothing to do with bricks and mortar. #TwinklyTuesdays
Love love love the poem! I was hanging on every word, think it’s nice to read something a bit different once in a while. I totally agree a home is a place where you should feel safe. I just moved into a new flat and it’s felt weird at times but I’m slowly getting used to it. We probably need to get rid of all the boxes if we want it to look like a home haha! What a great vlog by the way, I felt like we were having a conversation : ). The tulips were a very nice addition. Great tips as well! Thanks for the advice and sharing with #StayClassyMama!
This is such a lovely poem, and very thought provoking too. I don’t feel like I’m in my ‘forever home’ just yet, but this has reminded me how lucky I am to have the loving family home we have. I love the vlog too, it makes me feel I know you better! #EatSleepBlogRT

Such a lovely poem. We moved a short while ago and I need to make my home, a home again – just so it feels like our own. Of course, I am lucky enough to feel safe and have my family. Beautiful and inspiring! 🙂 Janet
