When it comes to styling there are many rules that ‘should’ be followed, but none more important than this one;
“style to the beat of your own drum”
that is why one of my favourite styles is ‘eclectic style‘.
“Eclectic style can be defined as combining two or more styles, or multiple elements from differing time periods or different origins into one single project. If done properly, the result should be harmonious; each piece should bring something unique to the space, but when combined together, all parts and pieces should have some thread that connects them and creates a cohesive appearance”.

When you are authentically you when it comes to creating a space that suits your personality that space instantly becomes your home, and there is no better feeling than coming home. A home is a place where you feel surrounded by things and people you love. And a place where you can look around and see things you love and memories come alive from pieces you have collected, and photographs or artworks that have personal meaning to you.
To style your home you need to become a little brave. You need to be willing to take risks and embrace happy accidents. You need to take time and discover what your style is and what makes you feel nurtured and happy. You need to be bold and excited, and adventurous.
When you go with your own style you create not only a stylish home, but also one the evokes emotion in you, and also in your guests. When I walk into a home that is styled like a show room I feel empty, yes it is pretty, or super stylish, but it lacks a warmth, a personality, it leaves me feeling like I can’t relax in that space. I don’t visit friends to feel like I am in a showroom, I visit them to get to know them better, to bond, laugh and relax with them. It is easy to get caught up in styling for others, worrying what people will think, of course it is lovely when people compliment our homes, but we have to live there, so we have to love it. And I think the thing that we miss is that our guests are more likely to love our home if they feel comfortable in it! Can your guests feel comfortable if they feel like they can’t touch anything?
There are many styles I love, from Farmhouse, to Modern, to Scandi all have beautiful feels and I will post about how to work with these styles in the future, but today I am talking ‘Eclectic‘.
Eclectic style is bold, brave, fun, and pretty much a mash up, it suits those who love to collect things through travel, or visiting markets, it suits artists and adventurous spirits. If you love to collect pieces and you love colour then this could be the style for you!
Be bold with colour, pull out those special artworks or pieces that you collected when you travelled, or visited markets, antique stores and out of the way shops to find the things that spoke to who you are. It is your home, so display the things that make you feel alive and happy, the things that nurture your true spirit.
If you have a lot of things you may want to lay them all out and figure out what pieces look best with others. Group them together in odd numbers. If you have too much it is best to restrain a little. Pick some favourites and you can rotate things around now and then.You don’t want it to look like you are having a garage sale. Stand back and think about what would look best where and use wall art to bring it all together. Try and group colours that work together and patterns that don’t clash. Pop things in spots, then stand back and ask yourself does this work? If not move things around, play and have fun until you work out the best combination. Like I said group things that work well together and put some away to be rotated around for a change now and then!
Large wall shelves work well for this style as it gives you a place to display your items. Mix and match generational pieces and styles, but look for unity in patterns and colours. Pick a hero piece and work off that, and go exploring, check out markets, and places you have never been. Choose pieces that resonate with your soul.

My style is completely eclectic! That first pic is my dream room and matching makes me dry heave. sadly my husbands style is minimalist, this is actually a fair representation of our relationship as a whole. We make it work though 🙂 #bloggerclubuk

Love the pictures you have included here of the eclentric style. it is very me but I can only aspire to these! I tend to resemble that car boot you mentioned! Although I am working on it and trying to declutter so this has given me inspiration to do so. Thank you for joining us at #BloggerClubUK hope to see you again next week x
I absolutely love eclectic style, I definitely think my house/personality could fit this look. I need some help when it comes to interior design as I’ve never really done up my house, you have offered some great advice! I think laying everything out and looking at what pieces look good together and grouping them in odd numbers could really help me figure out what works best. : ) Thanks for linking up with #StayClassy!
