I wasn’t sure when I hopped on the plan 11 days ago that I could actually leave my worries behind. Could I actually forget the site of my house, the pile of already packed brown boxes and even more than that ALL the stuff that STILL NEEDS PACKING? Could I forget the overwhelming mess my once beautifully decorated home has become? Could we really leave school and work behind, forget the pile of emails we knew would be waiting for us? Could I forget that I was being a ‘naughty’ mum by making my kids miss school mid term?

Surprisingly my usual ‘worry brain’ actually managed to switch off, and trust me if you knew me well you would be amazed as I have an oversized worry brain. But happily the minute I got on that plane heading for tropical paradise all my cares melted away. The kids were angels on the plane, amused with colouring, drawing, reading and lollies to suck for sore ears. They were so good I even ordered them a hot chocolate on the plane as a reward, (the hot chocolates and coffee arrived right as turbulence hit, disaster! We held on very tight to those paper cups I can tell you, for the ten minutes it lasted). I actually brought myself a crappy magazine, I usually never buy these, but it’s great to flip through a magazine on the plane. I was just so relaxed, and I am not a relaxed flyer, (my hubby barely got me on our flight when we went on our honeymoon! I think having kids I’ve learned to be braver as I have to look calm for them, I guess I faked it until I made it!)

The  holiday was amazing, there was not one bad day. Getting to swim with Dolphins in the wild had to be a highlight, and our nature walk with bright blue butterflies was magical. Just being with the kids outside of daily stresses was well worth missing a little school. (Sorry teachers). But it was just lovely having no schedules, no work, no PACKING. There is nothing quite like fun in the ocean with my family.

Yesterday we got back on the plane reluctantly, all 5 of us wanted longer, although we seriously missed this little girl and our other pets.

Again though the kids were fab on the plane flight, hubby is brining a cold home with him, yes he managed to catch a cold in tropical warm weather. It is always great to touch down at your home airport and know you are home safe. But it’s back to reality today, Monday morning and back to school and work and lots of packing to do. My hubby is feeling completely miserable and full of a cold, he looks awful. My son aged 5 didn’t want to go to school because his class was on assembly and he didn’t want to have to speak on stage even though he knew his lines off by heart. When it got to his turn he quietly and slowly spoke into the microphone he was so nervous, but he did it and was very proud of himself. It was sweet dropping them at school this morning and seeing them be mobbed by all the friends that missed them! Our life is great here and it’s nice to come home to great friends and family, but the weather is a bit cold today!

I am glad I managed to put the jobs ahead behind me whilst on holiday, but now here I am crashing back into reality, my life for the next two weeks is not looking as fun as the last two.
